Poly Labs rifle and shotgun recoil pads are the most advanced single, dual and even three density polyurethane and thermoplastic pads on the market. We are also one of the only 100% fully integrated US facilities with the full breadth of PU and TPU, TPE, TPR capabilities.
We work with leading firearms manufacturers to provide our OEM molded recoil buffers, as well as butt and comb pads to cushion shoulders and cheeks during recoil. Polyurethane recoil pads are molded around plastic structural inserts and can be designed with multiple densities. Given the nature of the application, these PU products need to offer the most advanced energy absorption properties.
Polyurethane and thermoplastics are critical to the design of firearms recoil pads. Our advanced engineering, unique designs, and experienced team allows us to work with manufacturers and design the ideal solution and material properties for each specific military, defense and firearm pad application.
What are Recoil Pads?
Recoil pads protect the rifle or shotgun user from damage and incurred pain when a gun is fired and kicks back. As expected, firearms tend to release a “shock,” that must be attenuated. Poly Labs’ proprietary energy absorbing polyurethane formulations are an ideal option as they allow for shock attenuation, while also also providing support and comfort to the user.
Poly Labs polyurethane butt and comb pads utilize a proprietary energy absorbing, medium-density foam, PU Foam U-92. This PU foam provides unique shock absorbing properties, both vertically and laterally. Our pad designs absorb energy and protect the user by displacing the impact vertically by compression deflection. Similarly, impact is displaced laterally by internal cellular expansion.
PU Foam U-92 (for Energy Absorbing Applications)
Poly Labs U-92 energy absorbing polyurethane foam is utilized in other applications, outside of recoil pads such as impact protection, recreational, head and back rests, furniture cushioning, and other applications.
The mechanical properties of U-92 foam are as follows:
Density | 0.25to 0.35 g/cm³ |
Hardness, Shore A | 65 – 74 |
Tensile Strength | 300 psi |
Elongation | 225% |
Die C Tear | 29 pli |
Abrasion Resistance, Taber, mg loss per 1,000 cycles | < 200 |
