History of Poly Labs
Poly Labs was spun out of Jones & Vining (JV) in 2020. The all Maine based management team and investor group is excited to be investing in and building the foundation for growth at our Lewiston, Maine production facility.
We trace our roots back to 1882, the year Auburn Last Company was founded in Auburn Maine. In 1965 Jones & Vining expanded into Maine with the purchase of both Auburn Last and Corey Last Remodeling Company. These companies had a long successful legacy in helping develop the Maine shoe industry. The merger of all these Maine based shoe companies became Jones & Vining of Maine. Over the next several decades Jones & Vining Maine invested in converting its equipment and focus over to becoming a global leader in the production of polyurethane shoe outsole and insole production. In 1971 Jones & Vining introduced the Unit Sole and by 1978 had moved its production to a new state-of-the-art 88,000 square foot production facility in Lewiston, Maine. At one point nearly 25% of all non-rubber footwear manufactured was made with unit soles.
Industrial Products Focus
During the 1990’s the Lewiston facility expanded into injection molded thermoplastics such TPE, TPU and TPR as well as dramatically expanding its polyurethane production capabilities. Entering the 2000’s the Lewiston factory became Jones & Vining’s Industrial Product Group given its rapid growth in taking on projects outside the shoe industry. Today the company supports many markets such as Defense, Medical, Toy, Impact Protection, Sporting Goods and Footwear.
In 2016 a large investment was made in one of the largest Gusbi twin head machines in North American capable of producing several million PU outsoles or insoles per year. The company has also recently invested in several state-of-the-art injection molding machines focused on next generation TPE and TPU materials.
With the launch of Poly Labs in November of 2020 the 100% US owned operation and team are excited to be increasing our investment in sustainable bio materials and to be partnering with leading companies around the world to bring their polyurethane and thermoplastic products to market.
